As a Virtual Assistant, my work isn’t tied to one particular desk—or even one particular place. I might be travelling to meet a client, working between appointments or simply looking for a change of scenery when the same four walls have started to feel rather too familiar. But finding somewhere suitable involves more than spotting a café that serves a decent cup of coffee. Can I comfortably open my laptop? Is there reliable Wi-Fi? Are the tables practical, the seating comfortable and the noise manageable? Would I feel welcome to stay for a while—and, perhaps most importantly, would I confidently bring a client there?

That is the idea behind Work From Here: a growing collection of real-world venue assessments for freelancers, remote workers, Virtual Assistants, small-business owners and anyone else who occasionally needs somewhere other than home or the office to work. These aren’t conventional café reviews based solely on the food, décor or service. Each venue is visited and experienced as a genuine place to work, with consideration given to everything from connectivity, sockets and seating to privacy, accessibility, atmosphere and the quality of the welcome.

Every assessment is based on what I actually experienced during a proper working visit—not assumptions, promotional descriptions or a fleeting ten-minute coffee stop. I’ll share what worked well, what may be worth knowing before you arrive and the kind of working day or meeting each venue might suit best. The aim isn’t to rank businesses against one another or declare one place “the best”, but to help people answer a much more useful question:
